ABOUT
The Kehrein Center for the Arts Foundation (KCAF) is proud to present a transformative evening of ballet created by Black and Latina women, offering a fresh perspective on an art form that has often lacked diversity and accessibility.
On March 1st, 2025, at the intersection of Black History Month and Women’s History Month, KCAF will partner with Ballet 5:8, the resident company at Chicago's Harris Theater, for a special festival. The evening features the premiere of The Caged Bird Sings, a collaboration with Overshadowed Productions that brings Maya Angelou’s iconic poetry to life through dance.
Ballet 5:8 will also present works by Black and Latina choreographers, providing powerful representation for the Austin community. The festival will include performances by other arts organizations led by Black and Latina women, highlighting the breadth of talent within the city.
